Dreaming

(April 16, 1971 – March 31, 1995)

I wanted to make a quick post about an artist I really enjoy. Despite her not physically being here, her music still lives on in my heart as well as the hearts of others. She was beautiful inside and out and I wanted to dedicate this to her in remembrance of an amazing mexican american woman. 16 years gone but never forgotten.
Rest In Peace Selena Quintanilla- Perez ♥

Be there! The Fair!

(This was my favorite photo of the day)

So this weekend, aside from me becoming an official gym member of LA Fitness, I went to the Miami-Dade Youth Fair. I haven't been there in years but since I'll be leaving in I don't know how many months, I figured I'd go one last time for some good ol' memories, and that's indeed what I did. Stepping foot in there made my childhood come back. That's definitely one thing I'll miss about Miami. The rides surrounding me, the corndogs, the super sized plush prizes at the games, the shish kabobs (kebab, whatev), the cheap little shops (which sadly, I purchased nothing from), I love it all !! I was so excited that I've posted the photos damn near everywhere haha, so if you follow me on tumblr or you're a friend of mine on facebook, you've already seen the madness. . . if not, enjoy the photos after the jump.

Strawberry Fields

Today was a very good sunday. My mom and I went to this quaint little place called Ruson. It's a Japanese restuarant, very similar to Samurai & Benihana. The good was good, the prices were no different (we were told it was cheaper lol). After brunch, my mother got a pedicure and then we did a little shopping. I only bought two dresses, but I'm very satisfied because they were very inexpensive. Before we ended the day, we stopped by a field that lets you pick your own strawberries (amongst other fruits & veggies). So yes, my mom and I picked our own strawberries. Very cheap, 2 pounds only rang up to about 2 bucks and some change. I had a really nice day. My outfit was fairly casual, just wanted to have fun with two colors (orange and blue) but keep it really casual.  Unfortunately, since I wasn't aware that any of this would take place, I didn't have my camera with me. Just my crappy digital and my blackberry lol. So enjoy the photos from my phone and my point & shoot ^_^

CHOPPED: I DID IT !!!

So after lots of friendly peer pressure, words of encouragement, and advice from my lovely friends I finally cut the rest of my relaxed ends off. Yes, you read correctly. . as of yesterday March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) I did the BC - big chop. As I was saying on one of my tumblr's I'm not confident with it, not yet at least, so I don't plan on wearing it out until it grows a little more or I can't deal with wearing weave. Don't get me wrong, I love it. I'm very proud of me taking this step, I'm just not used to having my hair so short and with this texture. Anywho, I'm excited. . . I feel like my journey officially began now that I can say I'm 100% natural. If you have any advice, tips, product recommendations let me know, I'm open to any and everything.

Don't I look happy hahaha, biggest smile in the world. Hope everyone is having a good day/ evening. Til we meet again ^_^

Simplicity on Sunday

Yesterday we celebrated Calle Ocho. For those who don't know what this is, it's a festival that takes place on 8th street (mainly filled with Cubans) but meant for every island/country/place . . . so Cubans, Dominicans, Jamaicans, Colombians, Nigerians, Puerto Ricans (etc) gather here, sell food, clothes, and accessories and sponsors like Power96 (a local radio station) put on a concert. Did I mention it's free? lol. The weather was beautiful !!!!! I kept my outfit simple b/c too many clothes will kill you out there haha.

Remembering: The Notorious B.I.G

In honor of Christopher Wallace, I'm making a post with two of many of his greatest hits. Songs that, no matter what race or cultural background you're from, you knew AT LEAST one line of the song lol. A true MC who's music will live forever. He's one name that definitely comes up in any conversation discussing old school hip hop. Rest in peace Biggie Smalls ♥

Trend Alert: Color block (02)

( Rihanna -  Frida Gustavsson - Amber Rose)

This trend post is like the complete opposite to the previous trend alert I made earlier, and I think I'm more in love with this trend . . . Color blocking! It's been seen on celebrities like Rihanna and Amber and on runways like Prabal Gurung's and Peter Som's spring 2011 shows. Vibrant oranges and electric blues, popping pinks, corals, greens, and yellows. Again with figure flattering items that are not skin tight.

It almost reminds me of a mesh between the mod fashion era and the 70s. Very psychedelic color combinations (and patterns, patterns are also very very in. . . at least in my world they are lol). I think this trend is so fun for summer. Can you imagine a bright orange pair of cuffed shorts with blue heels? I know I could. I think orange is definitely the "it" color this coming summer. The color blocking trend deals with everything from hair to nails. People are definitely becoming bold with their hair colors and other people, like me, are taking the more "subtle" approach with bright nail polishes. I tend to not match my manicures to my pedicures so that is definitely working in my favor this season (currently sporting 'Tropicalia' by Wet n Wild on my fingernails and 'For Audrey' on my toenails lol). Anywho, I definitely plan on indulging in all this color. If you've seen my video(s) on youtube, I mention how I'm always wearing black (it's my go to color) but hopefully this trend can break me out of my shell a little more because I am loving it.

Trend Alert: Rihanna (01)

So anyone who knows me knows I LOVE RIHANNA! From her music to her personality to the things she wears = awesome. Before I get into something currently trending, I definitely must give the biggest shout out to Mariel Haenn! She is a very well known fashion stylist/ costume designer who works with tons of celebrities, one being Rihanna (so yes, without her lovely fashion touches, some if not all of Rihanna's outfits would never have existed).

Don't step on my Blue Suede Shoes :)

(pardon the crappy photos, I was excited to get them uploaded and shown)

So this morning I got an email from FedEx stating my package was delivered. . . I've never jumped so fast out of bed in my life (unless, of course, I'm late for something lol). My Michael Antonio blue wedges from heels.com have arrived and I just had to make a quick post to show you all. First thoughts when I opened the box: the color is beautiful! After I inspected them a bit and tried them on, I sadly have three flaws:

1) They aren't exactly true to size. I'm originally a 7 in almost every shoe I have but I could have definitely gotten a 6.5 for them to fit better (as you can see by the slight gap in the back). I could exchange them but honestly I don't want to wait, so if I can find some half insoles to make them fit better I'll keep them.

2) For $64.99, I kind of expected them to be "made" a little better. The back seams are a bit tacky but nothing to stress over because they are still beautiful pieces for spring/ summer.

3) The bottom soles of the shoe are made of some type of soft suede type material so sadly if I wore these shoes on a rainy day or step on anything nasty, the bottom will be a disgusting mess. I also put them on, on a carpeted area and they were slippery, so I definitely have to be careful.

So yeah other than that, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. They also come in gray and red if you're interested and can be found HERE

P.S. Looking at these images, I realized these aren't the "ideal" style shoes for my legs. . . It cuts my leg and makes me look frumpy lol. I don't mind though b/c I am in love with them but I would definitely take that into consideration next time.

Splurge or Save

 ($560 at Net-A-Porter vs. $28.40 at Urbanog)

So I was browsing a few shoe sites (because those who know me know that I have a shopping problem lol, typical I know). Anywho, I came across these studded pumps that appeared extremely similar to a pair I had seen months back on Sarah Jessica Parker. If you're anything like me, you like to save money and get more bang for your buck lol. There are so many sites that have "high end" style shoes for cheap. One thing I don't like, though, is for the shoe to LOOK cheap so I do a lot of research before actually making a purchase lol. So yeah, I thought I'd provide a couple of sites to find some affordable shoes. . . hope you enjoy.
